Egypt has inaugurated the “Al-Nasr Floating Bridge 2,” a new infrastructure project connecting Port Said and Port Fouad, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from the Suez Canal Authority and Port Said Governorate.
The opening was witnessed by Suez Canal Authority Chairman Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie and Port Said Governor Major General Ibrahim Abu Limon, along with senior military and engineering officials. The event included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, an inspection tour of the bridge, and a trial run with a convoy of vehicles to test operational readiness.
The new bridge, located 170 meters from the existing Al-Nasr Floating Bridge 1, is designed to improve traffic flow between the two cities, with a combined capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles per day.
It spans 428 metres in length, 15 metres in width, and weighs around 3,000 tonnes of steel. The structure consists of five pontoons, including fixed and movable sections that open to allow maritime traffic through the Suez Canal.
Officials said the bridge can accommodate trucks weighing up to 100 tonnes, compared with 70 tonnes for the original structure. It was designed by the Port Said Naval Shipyard and incorporates solar-powered lighting as part of its sustainability features.
Construction of the metal structure took around eight months, involving approximately one million man-hours and the participation of 1,000 engineers and workers. The project was executed by Suez Canal Authority subsidiaries in cooperation with local engineering firms under the supervision of international classification body Bureau Veritas.
Authorities said the bridge is part of a wider network of crossings across the Suez Canal aimed at easing congestion and supporting urban expansion and economic development in the canal cities.
