Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, met with Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, to discuss avenues of deepened cooperation within the UN-Egypt strategic partnership framework.
During the meeting, Al-Mashat highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between Egypt and the United Nations, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. She underscored the vital role of UN agencies in supporting Egypt’s national development agenda and emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing collaboration mechanisms with development partners to unlock new opportunities for investment in key sectors.
The discussion touched on efforts to update Egypt’s Vision 2030 in light of recent global and domestic economic changes. Al-Mashat noted that the updated framework will guide Egypt’s medium-term economic and social development plan for the next three fiscal years and reinforce private sector empowerment as a core pillar for sustainable growth.
A major point of focus was Egypt’s initiative to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the governorate level. Al-Mashat explained that detailed SDG localization reports have been developed in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to identify each governorate’s strengths, weaknesses, and priorities—ensuring alignment between local and national development strategies and enhancing data-driven policy planning.
The minister also reviewed Egypt’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), designed to mobilize and optimize the use of both domestic and international resources to fund sustainable development. She outlined the three pillars of the national financing agenda: evidence-based economic policy, macroeconomic resilience, and the strategic mobilization of development finance.
Al-Mashat further noted that Egypt’s 2022 Planning Law and its forthcoming executive regulations institutionalize a more strategic, data-driven approach to planning—featuring comprehensive data analysis, ongoing monitoring, and alignment with the SDGs.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming Steering Committee session of the Egypt-UN Partnership Framework (2023–2027) and plans to commemorate 80 years of Egypt–UN collaboration.
