The planned projects will include transformer stations designed to evacuate energy from solar and wind power plants to transmission lines.
The Egyptian government, represented by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), has allocated EGP 7 billion for new investments to facilitate the evacuation and transmission of electricity generated from renewable energy projects and integrate it into the national grid by the end of 2025, according to a government official who spoke to Asharq Bloomberg.
The planned projects will include transformer stations designed to evacuate energy from solar and wind power plants to transmission lines.
Additionally, the projects will feature overhead power lines to connect the generated electricity to the unified national grid.
The EETC has already begun work on these projects, as the Ministry of Electricity prepares to handle between 4 and 5.5 gigawatts of solar and wind energy capacity by the end of 2025.
This effort aligns with Egypt’s strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to 42% by 2035.
The official noted that the majority of the electricity transmission projects will be located in southern Egypt, as most of the country's solar and wind energy projects are concentrated in the governorates of Aswan, Minya, and the Red Sea.
